Szenna:

Szenna is a little village in Somogy county in the Zselic forest. It is 10 kilometres from Kaposvár. Students come from other four villages to our school Patca, Zselickisfalud, Szilvásszentmárton and Kaposszerdahely. Our school is small and friendly. 171 students learn here and we know each other. In the school we can learn English or German. We have a new gymnasium, so we enjoy PE lessons very much. In the afternoon we dance folk dances, play the zither, the violin and the folk flute in the Zselic Art School. In the afternoon we like being together with our friends and chatting or cycling or playing.

Magyarmecske:

Our school of Magyarmecske is situated in a Southern Hungarian district in the Ormansag. The district of Ormansag is one of the poorest  areas of the country, the unemployment rate is up to 80%. As a result, the number of children with multipled-disadvantaged situation is very high. In our school there are a great number of Roma children learning.

In our everyday life a great emphasis is laid on educating to tolerance and we strive for giving our children the best possible education.

In order to achieve this our teachers have been receiving continuous further trainings and this leads to a successful cooperation between the pupils and the teachers.

Miskolc:

Our school is in Miskolc which is a cultural centre in  the East-Hungarian region and the third biggest city in Hungary.

Our school – Selyemréti  Primary and Hungarian-English Bilingual School – was the first bilingual school in Miskolc.

Today, we have about 36o pupils and quite a lot of them are Roma children. Some of them learn in bilingual classes while others are in normal classes.

All the teachers try to create  friendly, homelike atmosphere for all out pupils. We would like to teach both Roma and Hungarian students to be tolerant and sympathetic to each other. Moreover, we want to help their socially disadvantaged families.

Vecsés:

Our school is located in the town of Vecsés in Pest County. After the Turkish devastation, German families resettled the area and today there is a Schwaben minority besides the Roma minority. Halmi- telep, where our school is located, is the newest part of the town. During the 1960s people from Szabolcs, Hajdú and Békés county moved here in order to be employed in the factories of Budapest.

Before the first permanent school building was built up in 1967 children learned in the in the wine cellar of the artificial vine-hill. Since then it has been enlarged with two wings. About 250 pupils attend our school today. 24% of these children come from underprivileged families and our school strives to help these children with all possible means like free lunch, loaned study books, free field trips and so on. This child-centered mentality also motivates us to organize many colorful programs for our students and to keep old school traditions and introduce new ones.

Mezőcsokonya:

Mezőcsokonya is located in the North East of Kaposvár about 15 km far from it. It is an little, old village it was mentioned for the first time in 1324. It was given away by King Stephen.

Our school is a bilingual elementary school. There are about 140 students. In the lower classes we learn Arts and Crafts, P.E., Civilization in English besides our 5 English language lessons. In the upper classes we learn History, P.E. and Civilization in English and we also have 5 English language lessons. We try to celebrate some American holidays for example Thanksgiving and Halloween. We have a native speaker teacher as well. He teaches us fun games and songs and we talk to him a lot.

Zalabér:

Zalabér is a small, 800 years old village located by the River Zala in Zala County, in the West part of Hungary. It is 223 kms from Budapest, 20 kms from Zalaegerszeg and 50 kms from the Austrian border. Approximately 780 people live here.

When visitors arrive at the village, they are usually amazed by its charm and beauty. Horses are browsing by the river and emerald vineyard hills are embracing the lovely cottages and wine cellars.

Zalabér Elementary and Art School is situated in the centre of the village. Our school is not very big, around 100 students attend the institute from the neighbouring villages as well. The management and the teaching staff  believe in that every child is talented, therefore we focus on the support of the gifted students. The institute is member of the Hungarian Genius Program and the Talent Bridges Project. Pannon University has a mutual research project with us, since our students regularly participate in the scientific conference of students who do research in various topics.

The Art school offers the students many opportunities to show their talent. They can choose from visual and performing arts such as painting, sculpture, folk music, folk dance and drama.

We also participate in severallocal, regional, national and international competitions with outstanding resultso. We are proud of that our school has been selected to participate in the International Children Painting Competition in Hong Kong in August.

Ónod

Our school is located in Ónod, about 20kms from Miskolc in B.A.Z. County. It is named after Lorantffy Zsuzsanna. She was the wife of I. Rákóczi György. Ónod is famous for its Parliament took place in 1707.

The number of pupils varies about 230 of which 70% disadvantaged, 75% belong to the Roma population. With special teaching methods we help our students by providing them with opportunities of useful free time activities such as: music class, classes of modern and folk dance, sports.
